Spruce Grove Baby Photographer: Sweet Baby B and her Loving Family

This past weekend, Baby B and her parents braved the bitter Alberta winter to swing by my little home based studio for a few indoor photos.

This was the first real crack that I've had at using my indoor backdrops and props for photographing someone other than my own child.

Truth: I was stressed out and nervous.

Reality: I didn't need to be. The lovely natural light that enters my front windows coupled with the smiley demeanour of this sweet little girl made my camera sing!

And I love when that happens. :-)

Spruce Grove Baby Photographer: The love of my life makes his Blog Debut

So, you would think that having a mom who is a photographer would mean that you would be subjected to sitting in front of her lens day after day... enduring shot after shot, having to put up with her incessant need to get that "just so" photo. (wow, am I ever glad that I'M not this woman's kid!)

Surprisingly, this is not the case.

I've been so busy with every one else's photos over the past couple of months that I haven't really had a chance to apply this torture to my poor, helpless 6-month-old.

BUT...today, I found the time. And am I ever glad that I did.

I've decided that while Max and I are cooped up inside this winter, I'm going to hone my knowledge and application of indoor photography. Eventually, this will involve the purchase of a lighting kit, but for now, I want to see how I can best utilize my front room as a studio using just the window light and reflectors.

Today was my first experiment in this endeavour, and, well....

Edmonton Portrait Photographer: Tina & Darren ~ Love on Whyte!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of doing a "just because" photoshoot for Tina....and just for fun, we decided to have her hubby Darren join in for a few!

This fun-loving duo are huge hockey fans, and they even donned their jerseys for a few shots!

I did a little squeal of joy when I realized that the cool vintage ETS bus sitting near our chosen photo location was OPEN AND UNGUARDED! Muhaahahaaaa!!!! (<--- that's my evil photographer laugh, for those of you who haven't seen me stumble upon unexpected and unique photo locations during a shoot!) It was all the more fitting when I discovered that Darren is an ETS bus driver. How cool is that!!! :-)

Anyway, we had a very lovely morning in Old Strathcona, and here are a few of my faves for you guys to enjoy! Happy Tuesday!

Rich Valley Family Photographer: The P Family...Quality Time on the Farm

I had the pleasure of doing a family and extended family shoot for the P family a couple of weeks ago.

I've known Ian since high school, and it was lovely to meet his whole family, including his adorable children and their two horses (who have a starring role in some of these photos!). This family lives on a large farm so I felt right at home amidst the horses, cows, Wranglers, hats, and the awesome old house that they have in their yard!

We started out with a few formal group pics, then moved on to the best part of fall family photos: the spontaneous leaf fight!

Edmonton Family Photographer: The Y Family...Giving Thanks for fun times in Emily Murphy Park

I used to work with both Mom and Dad, but it had been many years since I had last seen them...so it was really great to be able to catch up!

The K Family...Hamming it up on the Homestead

I was lucky enough a couple of weeks ago to have the opportunity to do a family shoot with one of my high school friends (whom I hadn't seen in years!) and her lovely family.

Jayme, her hubby Raph, and their gorgeous daughter Arianna joined Justin, Max and I out at George Pegg Gardens for a wonderful fall morning shoot. The weather was lovely, the colors gorgeous, and the wind nonexistent (finally!).

Arianna reminds me of a woodland fairy in a lot of these photos...and the fact that she likes to climb trees really helps that illusion! Here are my faves. Enjoy!

Spruce Grove Maternity Photographer: Trisha (and Jeremy!) ~ Sunset in the Country

There's nothing better than gorgeous lighting, a lovely secluded location, and beautiful models to make one fall in love with her job on a warm autumn evening. I was super excited to do this shoot!
I've known Trisha since high school, and she makes one adorable pregnant lady! She met me at George Pegg Gardens with her sweet hubby Jeremy and her baby bump in tow in order to capture that special pregnancy glow that she clearly has. The shoot was fantastic, and I did a little happy dance in my head every time I checked a photo in my viewfinder.

Almost every photo from this shoot could be categorized as a favorite...but here are a few of my absolute faves...Enjoy!

Lee & Mac ~ Urban Adventures~ Family Photoshoot

Lee and Mac are two of my repeat offenders; this is the third year that they have bravely stepped in front of my lens. I love photographing these two. They have a great relationship, and although Mac isn't always thrilled about having his picture taken, we have a great time and we always end up with some great shots along the way. Now, for the past two years, Lee has managed to take me to the shadiest photo spots that I've ever been to. Thankfully, funky poses and kooky facial expressions take center stage, so you wouldn't even know that there are people sleeping on the sidewalks, broken bottles on the ground, and the odd abandoned shoe lurking in the background....

A Family Affair ~ Victoria & Eric ~ Wedding

You may remember Victoria and Eric from their engagement shoot in the Mill Creek Ravine at the beginning of August. Last weekend, this lovely couple made their union official (after nine years!!) in front of a supportive group of family and friends. These two are so fantastic together, and seriously such fun to work with! I have so many favorites from this wedding that it was hard to pick out the ones that would make it into the post. But, I did manage to choose after all, and here they are. Enjoy!

The bride and her lovely ladies started out the day at the Radisson South...

After the ceremony, it was on to formal pictures at the Museum Grounds and Government House. We battled other bridal parties and photographers for the shaded spots at Government House, and witnessed the strangest wedding party I'd ever seen there...all dressed in leopard print and high heels!

A huge kudos to Tori for this one...her dress was not that easy to maneuver in!

Eric's ring had to be one of the neatest that I've seen to date!!

Eric's side of the wedding party included his Grandpa! He was such a card!

We were able to sneak outside during the reception at the Moose Factory to take advantage of the evening light...

This was such a wonderful wedding full of family, friends, and fun. Congrats again Tori and Eric, and have a great time in Costa Rica!

Baby Bre ~Newborn Shoot

Since having a baby of my own, I've been interested in trying my hand at newborn photography. This is not as easy as it may sound!

Here are a couple of things that I learned during my photoshoot with Bre, Curtis and Sherry:

Peacefully sleeping babies don't always like to stay sleeping once you whip the camera out
You will most likely get peed on when working with a baby
Be prepared to do anything: yes, this includes catching baby poop with your bare hands!

It was a great experience for me, and I hope to do more of it in the future. Until then, here are a few of the gems that I managed to get that day. Enjoy!

Anthony & Ashley ~ Engagement

So, the time has finally come. Yup, someone finally agreed to marry my little brother. Poor girl. :-)
In all seriousness though, I'm thrilled that Anthony (aka Toner) has found someone like Ashley to share his life with. They go together like peas and carrots, and she seems to keep my brother in line, which, to those of us that know him, is no easy task! Can't wait until their wedding on October 1!

We headed over to dad's place last week to take some engagement photos. These are some of my favorites, I hope you guys enjoy them!

Hello to everyone in the Wild Rose family!

I have now entered the realm of using an iMac for my work, and I can tell you, I LOVE IT!!! Now I'm in the process of migrating all of my data and photos over from my old computer. As of September 1st I will only be keeping those images that I will use for promotional purposes. I won't be keeping every single thing from every single shoot. So, if you have had photos done by me in the past and you don't have them backed up/or if you need another CD of images, let me know. There will be a small (and I mean very small) admin charge if you do need another copy made, but since I love each and every one of you, I have no problems taking the time to do this! Send me a message if you need this done!

Victoria & Eric ~ Engagement Session

After a fantastic Saturday at Ft. Edmonton with my two favorite boys, we headed over to the Mill Creek Ravine to do an engagement shoot with Victoria and Eric. This session was full of laughs from beginning to end, and I had a complete blast working with these two (as you'll be able to see from the photos!). They are clearly very much in love, and they know each other inside and out, which made for some entertaining conversations. I can't wait for their wedding in September! I have this thing with old buildings...you may come to realize this over the course of this project. The history that lies within their walls is just fascinating to me. So much so, that every time I see one still standing, I will stop the car, or pull a u-turn just so I can get a good landscape shot of a structure that life forgot. This particular building is a church on the way to Rangeton Park.

Welcome to the first edition of the WRP 'A Day in the Life Of...' feature! Today's photo was actually taken at the wedding on Saturday...and I'm actually going to post 2 photos, as the subject made me laugh so much!

This is Camden. A very polite little girl who thought that my lipstick was pretty, and that my shoes were prettier. I have a feeling that when she grows up, she's going to be a shoe fiend, because after I took this photo, she asked if she could wear my shoes. To begin with, I said no, for fear that she would trip and break something. However, along with her polite nature lies the bug of persistence, so I helped her into my bright red patent heels.The sad thing is, she walked better in them than I did! I found out after the fact that I was the second victim in Camden's shoe borrowing spree.

What can I say about yesterday other than the fact that it was a beautiful wedding, followed by a fantastic party, and we had a blast, despite the heat! We danced, we visited, and we danced some more into the wee hours of the morning. The Bride and her ladies were all stunning, and the Groom and his boys were quite dapper and handsome in their wedding day best. Many laughs were shared, and the ceremony even had its own unique memorable moment when the groom realized he had forgot the rings! Classic! Here are a few of my favorites from the day. Enjoy!

Sarah and Luke

A turn of events and a spark of good fortune placed me at the union of Sarah and Luke, a fun couple who were up for anything! I have known Sarah for most of my life, as we grew up just down the road from each other, and our fathers have carpooled to work for the last 30+ years. Brad and Cassidy

I had the good fortune to be able to photograph the union of Brad and Cassidy, just 2 days after Christmas! I can imagine that their wedding planning was a bit of a hectic affair, and if that is indeed the case, it never showed! Things went off without a hitch (well, other than the important one!) and this lovely couple ended up with a gorgeous winter wedding. The highlights would have to include: Cassidy braving the chilly weather in bare shoulders for some lovely photos, the extremely hilarious video tribute put together by Brad's friends, a touching slideshow produced by Cassidy's sisters, and of course, Brad paying homage to his boy-band heroes with a song and dance number for his new bride. Congrats you two!

It's that time of year again, when gardens are overflowing with produce and the fresh smell of rain lingering on the greenery is more intoxicating than the most expensive perfume. Carrots pulled fresh out of the dirt, wiped on shirts, then eaten...rows after rows of beans, peas, beets, potatoes,colorful flowers and fragrant herbs.

This scene is fleeting however, as sooner than we would like, the inevitable chill of fall is lurking on the sidelines waiting for it's time in the limelight. But until then, the lovely scene of abundance that comes every summer shows us nature in all of it's producing glory.

Hello Friends, and welcome to my very first ever photography blog, and subsequently, my very first post! Through the coming months, I will be posting samples of my work for your perusal and critiquing amusement! In addition to what I would call 'Professional Work' (if I was indeed a professional!) such as weddings, and engagement photos, I will also be posting what could be referred to as 'Life Work'. This will include random shots from the farm, garden, city strolls, mountain hikes, camping etc...

Enjoy! Please feel free to let me know if you like what you see, and don't hesitate to tell me what you don't like as well! I'm pretty open to suggestions and I take constructive criticism quite well. It's the only way that I am able to grow as a person, and as an artist.
